The Miami Women’s Artist Archive is an independent research project that re-examines the role of an archive and how it functions within a community. How can we activate archival spaces in real time to foster community engagement and provide access to documentation, records and narratives that are normally hidden or inaccessible? Can the archive exist as an alternative site outside of a mainstream institution, still perform its function of serving as a site of preservation and embrace the complexities of archiving as a dynamic, post-custodial and culturally sensitive practice?
This site will document the progress of my research and highlight other projects that are making archives accessible in radical ways.
This project is made possible by the Locust Projects and the Wavemaker Grant with support from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Arts.
